Helping People Get Back Into the Water With AccesSurf

The calming breeze gently flowing through the infinite blue sky on a crisp afternoon. The soothing, rhythmic sound of waves crashing while a golden sunlight reflects off the surf from above. Every person should feel empowered to experience the therapeutic effects that the beach can deliver – even those with physical limitations.

In 2006, equipped with nothing more than a few pickup trucks, a small toolbox and a mountain of determination – a small team of dedicated individuals set out to create a program designed to aid those with physical limitations to get back into the water. Those humble beginnings created AccesSurf, a non-profit organization that has made life-changing impacts on countless members of our community

2021 marks the 15th anniversary for the group which has grown exponentially – hosting more than 40 events each year and organizing over 2,500 ocean experiences annually. This Hawaiian-born organization of nearly 900 volunteers is committed to helping enrich the lives of the physically disabled in our communities.

From the moment our team at Xerox® Business Solutions Hawaii caught a glimpse of an AccesSurf "Day at the Beach" event, we were hooked - and knew we had to get involved. Our relationship started small with our staff offering to print event flyers and posters on our Xerox® copiers and printers, but we were driven to do more for this incredible organization.

We were collaborating and excited to sponsor a "Day at the Beach" event in September 2020, but like many 2020 plans, COVID-19 caused the occasion to be postponed.

Taking a page from the same lessons that AccesSurf teaches its members, we adapted and overcame the obstacle. Through our XCIP (Xerox Community Involvement Program) initiative, our team at Xerox® Business Solutions Hawaii were able to organize a monetary donation of $1,500 for AccesSurf.

We are proud and honored to partner with an organization like AccesSurf that helps make a monumental impact on our local community. This is a relationship that we intend to maintain and grow throughout the years and are excited to see where it takes us.
